Commentator Michael Eric Dyson claims that Virginiaâs incoming lieutenant governor Winsome Sears (R) âjustifiesâ white supremacist âpractices.â
Sears, who was born in Jamaica, made history as the first woman and woman of color to win the lieutenant governorâs race.
During an appearance on MSNBCâs âThe Reidoutâ Thursday, Dyson claimed, âThe problem is here they want white supremacy by ventriloquist effect. There is a Black mouth moving but a white ideaâŚrunning on the runway of the tongue of a figure who justifies and legitimates the white supremacist practices.â
âWe know that we can internalize in our own minds, in our own subconscious, in our own bodies the very principles that are undoing us. So to have a Black face speaking on behalf of a white supremacist legacy is nothing new,â he said.
Dyson continued:
âYou should understand the fact that if you tell Black people, âLook I support a negro. Look there is a person of color that I am in favor of.â And that person of color happens to undermine and undercut and subvert the very principles about which we are concerned, you do yourself no service by pointing to them as an example of your racial progressivism.â

On Tuesday, MSNBC host Joy Reid, host of âThe Reidout,â said, âYou have to be willing to vocalize that these Republicans are dangerous.â
âThat this isnât a party thatâs just another political party that disagrees with us on tax policy. That at this point, theyâre dangerous. Theyâre dangerous to our national security, because stoking that kind of soft, white nationalism eventually leads to the hardcore stuff,â she added.
During an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday, Sears said, âI wish Joy Reid would invite me on her show.â
âAnd weâd have a real discussion without Joy speaking about me behind my back, if you will,â she added.
On Friday, Searsâ Twitter account shared a clip of Dysonâs comments on Reidâs show. It added, âStill waiting for my invite.â
