House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is accusing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Congressional Republican leadership of acting like a cult beholden to former President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, McCarthy shared a photo of the two men at the former presidentās Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida.
During an appearance on CNN after the photo was released, Schiff said, āThe GOP leadership is becoming a little more than a cult, and a dangerous cult.ā
āThat photo you showed of Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trumpā¦ What Kevin McCarthy is saying in that photo is, āI donāt stand for anything, I donāt care about anything, I accept my own personal ambition,'ā he continued.
Schiff added, āāAnd if I have to embrace someone who just incited an insurrection against the Capitol that resulted in multiple deaths, then I will do it.'ā

House Democrats have accused Trump of inciting a mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
McCarthy met with Trump on Thursday and said that the former president agreed to help Republicans win back control of the House and Senate, as IJR reported.
While McCarthy initially said that Trump ābears responsibility,ā he has since appeared to walk back his comments and now says he does not believe Trump āprovokedā the mob.
Instead, he argued, āI also think everybody across this country has some responsibility.ā
āBut President Trump said āpeacefully.ā What I said on the floor was that President Trump could have responded faster when the riots first started. I thought his video, the second video, was a very good video. I wish that was the first one,ā McCarthy added.
