Trump on Nobel Peace Prize Nomination: ‘It’s a Great Honor’

The president is welcoming the news that he was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

President Donald Trump was nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize by a member of the Norwegian Parliament for brokering the historic peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as IJR reported.

“It’s really worth the Nobel Peace Prize,” Christian Tybring-Gjedde told Fox News, adding, “For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees.”

In response, Trump spoke on “Fox News Rundown” Thursday, where he said, “It’s a great honor to be nominated, and I know it has tremendous significance.”

“I just think it’s a great thing for our country,” he continued. “It shows that we’re trying to make peace, not war all the time.”

White House correspondent Jon Decker mentioned former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis’ remarks where said Trump is “the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people. Instead, he tries to divide us.” Trump then said:

“I think sometimes you have to break up the eggs to make the omelet. Sometimes you do have to go in and rough it up and mix it up, so to speak. And then all of a sudden you come out with something that could be very beautiful. We never had the talent to get there and to negotiate these deals.”

Trump also addressed the announcement on Wednesday that the U.S. is withdrawing 1,200 troops from Iraq during the month of September.

He said, “We’re in a stage now where we can go back very quickly. If something happens, we can be back very quickly.”

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany also spoke about the Nobel Peace Prize nomination on Wednesday, “This is a hard-earned and well-deserved honor for this president,” adding, “President Trump’s foreign policy will always be one of peace through strength.”
