Former President Donald Trump expressed his opinion that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) should step down.

During an interview on Breitbart with host Matt Boyle on Sunday, Trump said that we “have to have that” in response to a question from the host asking if McConnell should step down. The interview comes days after McConnell froze up in the middle of a sentence.

“I think we have to have that. No, we have to have that,” Trump told the host.

Trump added that there were Republican politicians in the Senate who he described as “fantastic” and “would be great” at McConnell’s position.

Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) were cited as “doing a great job” by Trump.

McConnell’s freeze-up was described as being “sad” by Trump who also criticized several policy moves of McConnell’s.

“At the same time, I hope he’s well,” Trump added.

McConnell’s freeze comes months after he had been hospitalized after falling during a private dinner. It was later revealed that McConnell had a concussion from the incident.

In between these incidents, McConnell allegedly had another incident on July 14 in which he had tripped and fell while leaving a plane at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to NBC News.
