Black male voters in swing states said on NBC News Thursday that they stand by their decision to support President Donald Trump.

“Meet The Press” interviewed Black men in swing states who cast their votes for Trump in the 2024 election. Despite saying they had some reservations about Trump’s methods as president, most reaffirmed their support for him.

“I approve because he’s weeding out a lot of things that the other, I would say Biden and Kamala Harris, disrupted in the United States. It’s going to be a tough job for him in the Trump administration as a whole, but I’m just willing to wait and see what goes forth from now,” Marlon M., a 47-year-old Democrat from Pennsylvania, said.

WATCH:

Thomas A., a 49-year-old Democrat from Georgia who voted for Biden in 2020 and switched to Trump in 2024, said he does not fully agree with one of Trump’s methods but still supports him.

“I believe that he’s getting rid of the clutter in things that have been there for a long period of time, and he’s just cleaning house, but there’s a way to do it. And so I don’t 100% agree totally [with] how he’s cleaning house, but there are some areas that need to be improved within the government,” Thomas said.

Illya M. said Trump, as president, takes an approach that is proactive.

“He said he’s going to do some things. He did a lot of things,” Illya M. said.

“At least he tried and actually did something. So that’s more than I could say about the Democrats probably ever.”

Not all feedback, however, was positive as Jeffrey G., who disapproves of Trump, said he’s concerned about how Trump has handled personnel changes within the government.

“I disapprove of the way he’s handled the firings of government employees. Firing the public sector versus the private sector are two different animals. In my opinion, he should have gone in with a scalpel instead of a blowtorch. I think the economy right now is in a position where they’re hurting, and they need help,” Jeffrey said.

In a recent NBC News focus group, Black men in swing states who voted for Trump in November remain largely supportive of his administration, despite saying they’re concerned about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Trump’s tariff policies. Although most of the focus group participants continue to support Trump, there is a divide on issues like diversity, equity and inclusion programs and economic strategies to combat inflation. Some participants said they are frustrated because the Democratic Party lacks direction.

Upon taking office in January, Trump immediately began signing executive orders. His approach included dismantling the Department of Education and reversing initiatives set by previous administrations. The Democrats have formed a resistance against Trump and his initiatives, particularly DOGE, which has reduced the federal workforce.

In response to Trump’s policies, a coalition of national Democratic groups such as the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Association of State Democratic Committees launched the “People’s Town Halls” tour. They are targeting Republican-controlled districts throughout the U.S. The Democrats had significant losses in the 2024 elections. That same year, Republicans won the White House and the Senate and retained the House.
