Prices have already surged: a St. Paul family reported that a goalie helmet rose from $400 in 2022 to $1,000, while a chest protector increased from $465 to $900; average sticks now cost about $200, with premium models reaching $400. Industry officials warn the tariffs could slow hockey’s recent participation growth, though economists say prices are unlikely to rise by the full 50% because Canada represents only part of U.S. hockey-equipment imports. Canadian manufacturer Roustan Hockey, meanwhile, says it remains committed to its Ontario operations despite the trade pressure.
