Amazon to Invest $1.9 Billion More in Delivery Partners for Higher Pay
Amazon will invest an additional $1.9 billion in its Delivery Service Partner program in 2027, aiming to help independent delivery businesses raise drivers’ national average pay to nearly $24 per hour, though individual DSPs will decide how to use the funds. The company said it has invested more than $543 million in safety since 2022, contributing to a reported 23% decline in serious vehicle crashes last year. New technology will include AI-powered route optimization, panoramic cameras that detect nearby vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, and Smart Delivery Glasses offering navigation, package scanning and address verification. Amazon also committed $70 million over five years to community initiatives led by DSP owners, including food and essential-goods distribution. The company says total investment in the eight-year-old program will reach $21.7 billion.
