Hyundai Recalls 5,360 Ioniq 9 SUVs

Hyundai is recalling 5,360 model-year 2026 Ioniq 9 SUVs because software controlling the powered second-row seats may fail to detect occupants or objects during folding and stowing, allowing the seats to continue moving after contact and increasing injury risk, particularly to children. The recall covers Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design vehicles built in Georgia between March 17, 2025, and May 4, 2026. Hyundai reported five consumer complaints, including two alleged minor injuries, but no related crashes or fires. A March investigation found the seats could exert more force than the company’s safety limits, while the third-row systems remained within those limits. Hyundai introduced revised anti-pinch software into production on September 3, and owners can receive the free update over the air or at a dealership; until repairs are completed, they should keep occupants and objects away from the folding area while the seats operate. The recall follows a separate action involving 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid SUVs, whose powered rear seats were linked by federal regulators to the death of a two-year-old child and reported injuries.
