Mercedes-AMG Unveils First Ground-Up SUV, 1,153-HP EV

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the 2028 GT SUV, its first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house and the second model built on its AMG.EA high-performance electric architecture. The lineup will include GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63 versions, with the flagship GT 63 producing up to 1,153 horsepower from three motors and a claimed 0-to-60-mph time of 2.4 seconds. AMG says the SUV is designed to pair sports-car handling with SUV space and practicality, while its 800-volt system and advanced battery technology support exceptionally rapid charging. The SUV’s bold styling draws heavily on the AMG GT four-door coupe, though its larger, more upright shape makes it less performance-focused than that model. U.S. sales are expected to begin in summer 2027; pricing has not yet been announced.
