Bowling Green rallies past Miami 24-20 on late touchdown

Leo Kemp scored on a 2-yard run in the final seconds, lifting Bowling Green past Miami (Ohio) 24-20 in both teams' Mid-American Conference opener. Miami had moved ahead 20-17 on Kellan McLaughlin's 28-yard field goal with 1:47 left. Bowling Green answered with a 75-yard, 10-play drive. Jay Kastantin completed 5 of 7 passes on it, and a pass-interference penalty against Miami set up first down at the 2 for Kemp. Kastantin threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-37 passing, including a 64-yard score to Nakai Amachree. Caleb Heavner, in for injured David McComb, passed for 198 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-24. Miami fell to 22-6 in its last 28 MAC games. AP accounts carried by CBS Sports and the Las Vegas Sun clocked Kemp's touchdown at 7 seconds; totalapexsports put it at 8. Sources also split on whether Amachree's score came in the first quarter or late in the second. Coach Eddie George said the team seeks growth in situational football even when results fall short. Bowling Green hosts Sacramento State next; Miami visits Massachusetts.
