Builders FirstSource Hits 52-Week Low, RBC Downgrades
Builders FirstSource shares have fallen sharply amid weakening housing demand, high mortgage rates, concerns about margin pressure and lower expectations for future earnings. RBC downgraded the company to Sector Perform and cut its price target from $88 to $62, citing weaker housing starts, competition, compressed margins and leverage; it also lowered its 2027 EBITDA estimate below consensus. The company’s strong cash generation and liquidity may help it weather a weak construction cycle, while a discounted-cash-flow analysis in another report suggests its intrinsic value could be meaningfully above its roughly $53 share price. Still, estimates point to further near-term pressure: ahead of its scheduled October 29 earnings report, analysts expect lower quarterly revenue and earnings, with full-year forecasts also down substantially from the prior year.
