MongoDB Names Interim CEO After Shares Drop on Departure
Chirantan "CJ" Desai stepped down effective immediately as MongoDB president and CEO to join Meta as chief enterprise platform officer, reporting to Mark Zuckerberg. Desai had held the role since November 2025 after succeeding Dev Ittycheria. The board named Ittycheria interim president and CEO the same day. Chairman Tom Killalea said Ittycheria "will step in immediately to ensure a seamless transition." MongoDB said the departure was unrelated to disagreement over operations, policies, or practices and reaffirmed Q3 FY2027 and full FY2027 guidance. Meta will initially bring Muse Agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code to businesses and developers under Desai. CONTESTED: Reports put the share drop at roughly 14% to 25%. Schaeffer's cited 21.6% to $323.57, the worst day since a 22.2% drop on March 3, and a 24% year-to-date decline. Benzinga reported 19.44% to $330.65; TipRanks about 19%; MarketWatch more than 20%; Barron's 16%. Outlets agreed on the events; framing varied between Meta's hire and the stock reaction. MongoDB scheduled Investor Day for September 29, 11 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. ET at Nasdaq MarketSite and is searching for a permanent successor. Fiscal Q2 revenue grew 30% year-over-year to $771.8 million, with more than 70,600 customers.
