CANAL+, LaLiga Sign Anti-Piracy Pact Across 50 Countries
CANAL+ and LaLiga have formed a strategic anti-piracy partnership covering nearly 50 countries across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti, where CANAL+ broadcasts LaLiga matches. The organizations will share intelligence and anti-piracy technology, coordinate enforcement strategies, conduct joint investigations and accelerate action against criminal networks distributing sports content illegally. LaLiga President Javier Tebas and CANAL+ CEO Maxime Saada said piracy threatens the broader sports ecosystem by reducing clubs’ audiovisual-rights income, undermining broadcasters’ investments and depriving governments of tax revenue. The agreement reflects growing concern that sophisticated piracy networks rapidly adapt their tactics, while LaLiga estimates illegal broadcasts cost Spanish clubs hundreds of millions of euros annually.
