Chemours, DuPont, Corteva Agree $455 Million PFAS Settlement

Chemours, DuPont and Corteva agreed to pay $455 million to North Carolina and 11 local entities to resolve litigation over PFAS and other historical discharges linked to Chemours’ Fayetteville Works facility and alleged contamination elsewhere in the state. Payments will be made over 15 years, with Chemours responsible for an estimated $180 million on a net-present-value basis under the companies’ 2021 cost-sharing agreement. The settlement includes $18 million for contamination unrelated to Fayetteville Works and addresses remaining obligations such as drinking-water programs for affected communities. Existing accruals are expected to cover the companies’ shares, while the agreement provides credit toward qualified cleanup spending and clarifies future escrow requirements. The deal follows progress under a 2019 consent order and is intended to resolve major liabilities while allowing continued operation of the Fayetteville facility.
