Chinese Student Arrested in Ginza Attack, 25 Hospitalized

Tokyo police arrested 24-year-old Chinese university student Ye Shengfeng over an alleged pepper spray attack at the Ginza Six shopping complex on May 25. Police say he sprayed a man he did not know near an ATM, exposing people nearby to capsaicin and causing eye and throat irritation; about 30 people reported symptoms, and 25 were taken to hospitals. Ye has declined to discuss the allegation. Investigators are also seeking another man seen with Ye near the scene shortly before the attack.
