DeepSeek, MiniMax reportedly win overseas AI approval
DeepSeek and MiniMax have completed required registration procedures and received clearance to release their models as open source and license them for overseas use, according to a social media account affiliated with China’s state broadcaster. The announcement followed Beijing’s proposed export controls covering 23 AI-related technologies, including large language models, AI agents and computing clusters, raising concerns that the rules could curb Chinese firms’ global expansion. The account said much of China’s AI technology would remain exportable and companies could continue commercializing their models, with simplified licensing for some open-source exports.
