Delhi court notices JioStar over Zee music claims

Zee Entertainment has asked the Delhi High Court to hold JioStar in contempt, alleging the broadcaster continued using Zee’s copyrighted music after its licenses expired and a May 5 order barred further use. Zee pointed to six alleged instances from May through July, building on an April lawsuit seeking $3 million over about 50 alleged copyright violations. The court asked JioStar to respond, cautioned it against further non-compliance and set the next hearing for December; it has not ruled that JioStar is in contempt. JioStar said removing every instance from Zee’s large catalogue was difficult and sought metadata to help identify the works, while Zee argued JioStar controls the content it broadcasts and should not make removal depend on Zee identifying each use.
