ELYSIS Cables Mark First Amazon Data Center Use

Prysmian and Rio Tinto will supply electrical cables made with aluminum produced using ELYSIS inert-anode technology for installation at an Amazon data center near Columbus, Ohio. The companies describe it as the first known or documented use of inert-anode-smelted aluminum in a data center. ELYSIS replaces conventional carbon anodes with proprietary inert materials, eliminating direct greenhouse-gas emissions from aluminum smelting and producing oxygen as a byproduct, although the companies have not provided a full life-cycle emissions comparison. Rio Tinto produced the aluminum in Quebec using hydroelectric power, Prysmian will manufacture the cables in Sedalia, Missouri, and Wesco will distribute them. The project builds on Prysmian and Rio Tinto’s March 2026 collaboration to introduce ELYSIS aluminum into building wire and supports Amazon’s goal of reducing emissions across its data-center supply chain.
