South Park Announces 'South America' Stunt Mocking Trump

“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone announced a satirical rebranding of the show as “South America,” shortly after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The stunt mocks current President Donald Trump’s efforts to rename geographic landmarks with “America”-centered titles, including the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario, as well as Apple and Google for reflecting some of those changes on their map services. Parker and Stone also took a jab at their corporate parent, Paramount, calling it a “Skydance Capitulation.” The rebranding appears to be a promotional joke rather than a permanent name change, with the show’s 29th season scheduled to premiere Sept. 16.
