Essex Cricketer Suspended After Two Rape Charges

Robin Das, 24, of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July 2026 with two counts of rape. The Metropolitan Police said the charges follow his arrest on 27 August 2025 after reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024, and that the woman continues to be supported by specialist officers. He is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October 2026. Essex County Cricket Club said a contracted male member of its playing staff recently appeared in court over an incident outside club activities and that it applied an immediate and ongoing suspension while remaining in contact with the ECB, PCA, The Cricket Regulator and the player. A club spokesperson said staff must meet the highest standards of professional conduct and that it cannot comment further while proceedings continue. Das made his Essex debut in 2020; coverage lists nine first-class, 29 List A and 24 T20 appearances, with the Mirror putting his total across formats at 62.
