Ex-Army Soldier Gets 59 Years for Wife’s Murder
Former U.S. Army soldier Zarrius Hildabrand was sentenced to 59 years in prison for the 2023 killing of his wife, Saria, an Alaska National Guard combat medic. Prosecutors said he shot her after she confronted him about evidence of infidelity, hid her body in a storm drain, then reported her missing and joined search efforts. He was convicted of second-degree murder and evidence tampering, but acquitted of first-degree murder; his sentence includes 10 years of probation after release, and he may seek discretionary parole after about 40 years. The defense argued at trial that Saria died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
