FIFA Legal Chief García Silvero Leaves After Eight Years in Post
FIFA chief legal and compliance officer Emilio García Silvero is leaving after eight years to return to Spain and begin a new professional chapter in Madrid. He oversaw legal and compliance work in Zurich and Miami, contributing to changes involving international payments, player-agent rules and the transfer system, while increasing publication of legal rulings; Jan Kleiner will serve as interim head of the departments. His departure follows other senior-level exits, including chief operating officer Kevin Lamour’s, and comes as FIFA President Gianni Infantino faces scrutiny ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Media reports said García Silvero backed Infantino in a senior-management vote on a plan to sell World Cup stakes to private investors; the plan was dropped after backlash, and García Silvero has not publicly commented on his reported vote.
