The LA Galaxy host the Portland Timbers on Wednesday in a pivotal Western Conference match, with LA three points ahead of Portland as both teams pursue a playoff place. The Galaxy are looking to respond to a 6-2 loss at St. Louis, while Portland comes in after letting a 3-1 lead slip in a 3-3 draw at Sporting Kansas City. The teams drew 1-1 in their earlier meeting this season, and LA holds a narrow edge in their all-time regular-season series. Galaxy coach Greg Vanney said his team was disappointed by the loss but focused on bouncing back at home; Portland midfielder Diego Chara said the Timbers need a strong result in the playoff race.
