Georgia Midwife Convicted on Nine Counts After Near-Fatal Home Birth
A Georgia jury found Woodstock midwife Cynthia Rene Morrow guilty on all nine counts after a nine-day trial, including practicing medicine and nursing without licenses, unlawful midwifery, reckless conduct and drug-related charges. Prosecutors said Morrow performed unauthorized procedures during a 2022 home birth, including administering Pitocin and IV fluids, while the mother suffered a severe postpartum hemorrhage. The woman had lost about half her blood and was unconscious and vomiting when Morrow called 911; medical experts testified she should have been taken to a hospital at least five hours earlier. She survived after emergency treatment, including transfusions and surgery. The remaining convictions involved another client and expired Pitocin found during a search of Morrow’s home.
