Ghanaian Jailed Nine Months for U.S. Identity Fraud

Linford Atakora, a 29-year-old Ghanaian national, was sentenced to about nine months in federal custody after pleading to felony misuse of a Social Security number, and the court ordered his removal to Ghana. Prosecutors said he used a U.S. citizen relative’s name and identification documents to obtain a job at a Bismarck, North Dakota, home health agency in March 2024, despite lacking work authorization. The false employment records led the agency to receive $51,435.63 in ineligible claims from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
