Google Appeals EU Orders on Android, Search Data
Google has appealed two European Union orders under the Digital Markets Act that would require it to share search data with rival search engines and AI services and give competing AI assistants access to Android features used by Gemini. The company argues the requirements could expose users’ private search histories and weaken Android’s security, while the European Commission says the measures include safeguards for privacy, device integrity and security. The orders set deadlines beginning in 2027 for search-data sharing and Android interoperability changes. DuckDuckGo has backed the EU’s approach, calling its anonymization framework robust and saying the appeal would mainly delay implementation.
