167,639 Pounds of Meat Recalled Over Counterfeit USDA Inspection Marks

Star Meat Delivery Inc. of Lucama, North Carolina, is recalling approximately 167,639 pounds of raw beef, pork and goat products produced without federal inspection and distributed nationwide through Georgia-based A&D Foods. The products carry a counterfeit USDA inspection mark with establishment number “EST. 1363,” although retail packages may not display the number if stores added their own labels. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service classified the recall as Class I, warning that the uninspected meat could contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria or other contaminants and may pose a reasonable risk of serious illness or death. The recall includes more than 20 vacuum-packed meat products in cardboard boxes. Consumers, restaurants and retailers should not eat, sell or serve the products and should discard them or return them. No illnesses or injuries have been confirmed, and officials said additional products could be added as the investigation continues.
