Holiday Airfares Expected Higher After 25% Surge

Holiday airfares are sharply higher than last year as soaring jet-fuel costs and steady travel demand push airlines to raise prices. Thanksgiving fares are up roughly 30%, while Christmas fares have climbed more than 20%, and experts say travelers may find little relief as airlines pass along some of the higher fuel expenses. Airlines are also cutting less-profitable options, including some midweek, early-morning and late-night flights, reducing choices for budget-conscious travelers. Despite the higher prices, many passengers are continuing with holiday plans and booking early.
