Honda reportedly plans $2.5B Ohio hybrid plant
Nikkei reported Honda is in the final stages of preparing a new hybrid-vehicle plant in Ohio with an investment of 300 billion to 400 billion yen, about $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion. Production is targeted to begin in 2030. Reports say the facility could produce about 250,000 vehicles annually. Honda has not publicly confirmed the project, its site or its capacity. The move follows Honda's March 12, 2026 cancellation of the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon and Acura RSX planned for its Ohio EV Hub. Honda had committed more than $1 billion to retool plants at Marysville, East Liberty and Anna. It warned of losses of up to 2.5 trillion yen ($15.7 billion) and its first expected annual net loss since listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 1957. Kazuhiro Fujimura told investors in May that EV viability was not currently assured. In May 2026 Honda said it would raise local content of hybrid motors and inverters to more than four times current levels. Ohio hosts five of Honda's 12 U.S. factories. Details on the plant's location, workforce and incentives have not been released.
