Indonesia Ends Search for Journalists Missing Near Krakatau Eruption

Indonesia has ended the search for five journalists and three others who disappeared after traveling by speedboat to document Mount Anak Krakatau’s eruptions in the Sunda Strait. The operation was extended to 10 days and covered a wide area with hundreds of personnel and dozens of vessels, but rescuers found no trace of the boat or its occupants. Authorities said the search was closed under national rescue regulations but could resume if debris or other credible leads emerge. Police are also examining a body found on Enggano Island for a possible connection, with DNA results pending, while ships, fishermen and residents have been urged to report relevant information. The volcano has remained intermittently active, disrupting flights and spreading ash across parts of western Indonesia.
