Indonesia names fourth suspect in wiretap targeting president
Indonesian police have named Slamet Uliandi, a senior criminal-investigation official, as the fourth suspect in an alleged illegal wiretapping operation targeting President Prabowo Subianto. Investigators say Uliandi authorized interceptions and the deletion of records; he has not been detained because of a health condition. Three other senior officers have been detained, including Listyo Sigit Prabowo, a former national police chief and current presidential chief of staff who is viewed as an ally of former president Joko Widodo. Police say the alleged surveillance, which took place in 2025 and 2026, also targeted officials, politicians, journalists and business leaders, while they continue to investigate its motives. The scandal has sharpened political tensions between Prabowo and Widodo and raised security and investor concerns; thousands of troops were deployed in Jakarta, where the situation remained calm, and Widodo has not been implicated in the investigation.
