Infantino Plans 2027 FIFA Re-Election Bid Amid Backlash
FIFA President Gianni Infantino will seek a fourth term in the March 2027 presidential election, despite mounting opposition to his leadership. The backlash centers on his abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal to sell private-investment stakes in commercial rights linked to major tournaments, including the World Cup. UEFA has led criticism and pursued legal action, while Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation have also opposed the plan; threats of boycotting FIFA competitions were withdrawn after FIFA said it would not revive the proposal. UEFA is now seeking a credible challenger rather than pursuing a no-confidence vote, although no opponent has formally declared a candidacy and nominations are due by Nov. 18.
