Judges Strike Down Trump Education Policies

Federal judges have invalidated multiple Trump administration policies affecting education and immigrant access to federally funded services. In Massachusetts, Judge Angel Kelley ruled that the Education Department unlawfully canceled about $600 million in teacher-training grants, finding the directive arbitrary, capricious and improperly issued without required notice or public comment; the decision does not automatically restore the funds. In Rhode Island, Judge Mary McElroy permanently blocked a directive that would have denied programs such as Head Start, community health clinics and adult education to certain immigrants, ruling that the administration improperly attempted to change eligibility rules.
