Knicks Pause Sales for Opener After Mistake Sends Prices Over $1,000

Madison Square Garden paused individual ticket sales for the New York Knicks' Oct. 20, 2026, season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers after fans objected to prices that included $1,039.50 for Section 418 upper-deck seats. Prices in the 300 level reached $1,550 and 200-level tickets exceeded $2,000. Tickets went on sale Sept. 16, 2026, through Ticketmaster after a Sept. 14 Chase Fan First cardholder presale. TicketData reported primary-market get-in prices between $1,363 and $1,408, with an average asking price around $2,500. MSG said it was pausing sales due to a pricing mistake, will roll back to last year's prices plus an average 12% increase, restart sales shortly, and refund the difference to prior buyers. MSG said its intention was never to overcharge loyal fans. On Sept. 16, Tommy Beer posted that MSG itself was charging $1,039.50 for 400-section standard admission seats via Ticketmaster—$4,158 for a family of four—and called it shameful after fans supported the team through losing seasons and a first title in more than five decades. The game includes the Knicks' banner raising and ring ceremony. How the pricing error occurred has not been publicly detailed.
