Local food initiatives span US communities
In St. Johns County, Florida, a nonprofit is launching a pilot to provide daycare children with affordable, scratch-made meals and snacks using locally sourced produce, backed by a one-time $65,000 county grant and a partnership with a local farm. In Cincinnati, the Country Fresh Farm Market continues its decades-old focus on locally grown produce and regional goods. Knoxville’s Beardsley Community Farm combines food distribution with agricultural education, supplying local organizations and supporting community gardens, including those serving refugee families. In Ohio, Fairfield FFA students assembled about 50 meals for local farmers working through harvest.
