Madrid F1 Organizers Plan Track Changes After Debut

Formula 1 organizers expect to modify Madrid’s new Madring circuit after its debut Spanish Grand Prix produced very little overtaking and widespread criticism from drivers and fans. The track was praised for its infrastructure and challenging high-speed layout, particularly in qualifying, but its design made it difficult for cars to follow one another closely or attempt passes during the race. Drivers including Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Alex Albon called for changes, with Norris suggesting that several corners be replaced by a longer straight leading into a hairpin. Madring managing director Luis García Abad said the FIA has identified potential improvements and that organizers have the space and facilities to refurbish the layout before next season, while acknowledging that existing infrastructure could limit changes in some sections. The circuit is covered by a 10-year Madrid contract, and officials, teams and the FIA have already begun discussing modifications.
