Jeffries backs Massie push for quick Hegseth impeachment vote
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he is a “hard yes” on impeaching Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, backing Rep. Thomas Massie’s effort to force a House vote on eight impeachment articles. The charges include allegations that Hegseth violated the War Powers Resolution through his handling of the war with Iran, which critics say has endangered national security and driven up costs. The vote could come within days, and Republican leaders are reportedly preparing for some GOP members to join Democrats in support, though no public vote count is available. Hegseth has dismissed the effort as political theater and says it will fail, while President Donald Trump has said he intends to keep Hegseth in his post. Even if the House impeaches him, removing Hegseth would require a two-thirds Senate vote.
