McIlroy Urges Men’s Golf Reset, Criticizes LIV
Rory McIlroy backed DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings’ claim that LIV Golf officials said they wanted to “destroy” the European tour, alleging they made the comments to people at the Masters. He criticized LIV for poaching players and sponsors and turning professional golf into an arms race, while arguing that its spending created an unsustainable financial environment and that the men’s game now needs a reset. The criticism comes as Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has withdrawn its backing, LIV has entered bankruptcy proceedings and canceled player contracts, and new investors are being sought for a possible 2027 relaunch. With some high-profile players leaving LIV or seeking routes back to established tours, McIlroy said the DP World Tour is in a stronger position and expressed hope for continued cooperation with the PGA Tour.
