Moonshot Executives in Talks Over $700M Shareholder Dispute
Moonshot AI CEO Yang Zhilin and CTO Zhang Yutao are negotiating a settlement with Recurrent.ai and former investors seeking 10.5% of Moonshot's original shares, potentially worth over $700 million on a $30 billion June fundraising valuation. The Hong Kong arbitration has run since 2024. The pair co-founded Recurrent.ai in 2016 and Moonshot in 2023; Recurrent received 9.5% of Moonshot's original shares at founding. Moonshot has confidentially filed for a Hong Kong IPO. A March 11 letter from Recurrent's counsel alleged an unauthorized April 2023 transfer of servers with LLM training data to a Moonshot subsidiary and September 2024 data deletion at Zhang Yutao's direction; the letter gave no supporting evidence. David Morrison of MinterEllison told Chinese media in November 2024 the case "lacked both legal and factual basis." Claimants are also weighing a Cayman Islands suit over Zhang Yutong's alleged undisclosed shareholding; she left a Recurrent directorship in 2022. CONTESTED Recurrent alleges misconduct and data mishandling; counsel for Yang, Zhang Yutao, and Moonshot says the case lacked legal and factual basis. Settlement timing and any IPO effect remain unresolved.
