Nevada Voters Weigh Constitutional Abortion Rights Amendment
Nevada voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to approve Question 6 for a second time, a requirement for citizen-initiated constitutional amendments; voters approved it 64.4% to 35.6% in 2024. The measure would establish a constitutional right to abortion until fetal viability, or later when needed to protect a pregnant person’s life or health, replacing the current 24-week statutory limit with the viability standard. Supporters say it would protect reproductive freedom, medical privacy and patients and providers from future restrictions, particularly after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Opponents argue the amendment’s viability and health provisions are unclear, could undermine existing safeguards, and would limit lawmakers’ ability to enact future protections; the measure’s potential costs to taxpayers are also unknown. If approved, Question 6 would make abortion access a constitutional right in Nevada; if rejected, it would not take effect, while abortion remains legal under current state law.
