Nigerian Bishops Announce Nationwide 2027 Election Prayers
Nigeria’s Catholic bishops have called for nationwide prayer and fasting ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing concerns about electoral violence, rigging, vote-buying and communal divisions. Their program includes parish prayer days and a nationwide diocesan observance, and urges voters to reject corruption and tribalism and make responsible choices. In Lagos State, Muslim and Christian communities in Igbogbo-Baiyeku also held an interfaith prayer for peaceful elections, good governance and national unity. The gathering promoted religious harmony, though it also provided an opportunity for political stakeholders to seek support for APC candidates.
