Nutrien to Indefinitely Shut Trinidad Nitrogen Operations Over Gas Supply Issues
Nutrien will indefinitely shut down its Trinidad Nitrogen operations at the Point Lisas facility, citing persistent natural gas supply constraints and uncertainty, along with port access restrictions that had undermined the operation’s economics. The facility was already placed in a controlled shutdown on October 23, 2025, and the company said closing it is intended to improve free cash flow and returns on invested capital. Nutrien said the decision will not affect its 2026 nitrogen sales guidance because its projections already assumed no production from Trinidad; it expects to serve customers and grow volumes through its North American operations. The company said it is committed to managing the transition responsibly and safely.
