Poles Protest in 27 Localities for Abortion Reform
Demonstrators rallied in dozens of Polish cities, including Warsaw, demanding that Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s coalition fulfill its promise to liberalize the country’s restrictive abortion laws. The protests, held on the anniversary of a 2020 court ruling that barred abortions for severe fetal abnormalities, came as parliament passed two limited measures that protesters say fall short and are expected to be vetoed by conservative President Karol Nawrocki. Activists also criticized the government for taking too long to deliver reform, while the governing coalition remains divided over the issue.
