Report Finds Chavez-DeRemer Violated Labor Policies

A Labor Department inspector general report alleges that former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer presided over a “toxic, intimidating and humiliating” workplace where staff were berated, pressured to drink and threatened with termination. Investigators concluded she violated department policies by consuming alcohol on federal property, improperly combining personal and official travel, failing to report gifts, and using government employees and resources for personal errands, including organizing her closet and retrieving packages. The report also described an allegedly inappropriate relationship with a senior security-detail member, including efforts to arrange private meetings and shared hotel stays, but found no direct evidence of a romantic or sexual relationship; it further alleged that during a personal Oregon trip, she directed a security employee to drop cash onto a partially nude performer at a strip club. Chavez-DeRemer resigned in April 2026 before investigators could interview her, while her attorney disputed the findings and said the report did not establish that she broke any laws; several senior aides were fired and declined to participate.
