Watchdog sues over Kushner’s unconfirmed diplomatic role
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has sued the Trump administration over Jared Kushner’s diplomatic role, arguing that he is exercising significant foreign-policy authority without Senate confirmation or required financial disclosures. The watchdog says his work—including negotiations involving international conflicts—raises constitutional and ethics concerns, particularly because his investment firm, Affinity Partners, has received funding from Middle Eastern governments and investors. CREW asks the court to bar him from the role or require financial disclosures; the allegations have not been established in court. Kushner’s attorney says his volunteer service has been reviewed by ethics lawyers, complies with applicable rules, and involves no government pay, while the White House says he pays his own expenses and dismisses the lawsuit.
