2026 Midterms Put Congress and Statehouses at Stake
Voters across the country are deciding competitive 2026 midterm races, with control of Congress and several state legislatures at stake. Ballot measures include questions on abortion access, redistricting and other issues in Missouri; constitutional changes in Maryland; and a proposal in Allegheny County on council members’ staffing and benefits. Missouri’s secretary of state projected turnout of about 55%, up from roughly 48% in 2022, while Pennsylvania officials and observers reported strong interest and more than one million mail ballots returned by Monday night. Voters cited the economy and everyday costs, along with immigration, public safety and abortion, as concerns; races and ballot questions also include statewide contests in Massachusetts and legislative contests in Kansas and Nebraska.
