Poll Shows Lula, Bolsonaro Tied in Runoff
A close Brazilian runoff is pitting President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva against Flávio Bolsonaro, with a Quaest poll putting Bolsonaro at 45% and Lula at 44%, a gap within the survey’s margin of error. The same poll found 44% of voters fear a return of the Bolsonaro family to power, while 42% fear Lula’s reelection, and showed Lula’s government with 46% approval and 47% disapproval. Many older voters are leaning toward Lula amid concerns that Bolsonaro could cut health care and pension spending; seniors now account for nearly a quarter of Brazil’s electorate, making them a potentially influential bloc. Separately, a majority of respondents aware of recent government measures reportedly viewed them as politically motivated to help Lula’s reelection.
