Record Hong Kong Rents, Home Prices Edge Up
Hong Kong’s private home price index edged up 0.06% in August to 320.5, reversing a revised 0.8% decline in July, its first monthly drop since March 2025. Prices rose about 7% in the first eight months of 2026 and nearly 11% year over year, but remained roughly 19.5% below their September 2021 peak. Small and medium-sized homes were flat for the month, while larger units gained 0.4%. Rental prices continued to show greater momentum: the index rose 1.64% to a record high for a 10th consecutive monthly increase. Market support includes firm demand, particularly from mainland Chinese professionals, positive sentiment and easing oversupply, though the recent price rebound has lost pace.
