RSF Strikes Five Stations, Blackouts Hit Eastern Sudan
Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces launched coordinated drone strikes on five power stations in Al-Jazira, Gedaref and White Nile states, causing widespread outages in areas controlled by the Sudanese army. Residents reported losing electricity before dawn, with uncertainty over when service would return; one resident said the outage threatened his diabetic son’s refrigerated insulin. The United Nations has warned that attacks on power infrastructure jeopardize essential services and public health as Sudan faces severe hunger and a collapsed health system. The strikes come amid a war in which both sides increasingly use drones, with recent attacks killing and injuring hundreds, according to a UN tally.
