Seven-State Cheddar Recall Gets FDA Class I Rating
Family Farmstead Dairy recalled its 8-ounce Raw Mild Cheddar Cheese with lot code and best-by date 7/22/27 after testing found E. coli strains O26:H11 and O45:H2. The FDA classified the recall as Class I, its most serious level, because the product could cause severe illness or death. The cheese was distributed in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and may have reached other states through distributors. No illnesses had been reported; consumers should not eat the cheese and should discard it or return it for a refund.
